Utah State Capitol East/West Expansion

Project Description:   

These twin office towers built at the Utah State Capitol featured both braced frame and moment frame construction.  The structural steel on this project was much larger than a typical structure because of the granite skin it helped support.  One of the main concerns on this project was the absence of material staging area given the size and complexity of the steel.  Sure Steel was able to work with the fabricator out of Tennessee to schedule “just in time” delivery of steel.   

Schedule: 

This project required the simultaneous erection on portions of both towers.  Sure Steel was able to provide the necessary working force in order to accommodate the schedule of the General Contractor/ Owner.  This project was completed on time working through the winter months. 

Quality: 

There were no quality issues to report on this project.  All erection was completed in accordance to AISC standards for steel erection.   

Safety: 

Construction of the structural steel for this project was completed during the winter months. Even with the safety concerns of winter ice and snow, this project was completed with out any safety issues.
