Project Description: This project was completed in August of 2010 and is part of the DoD BRAC (Base Realignment and Closer) Project. Sure Steel was part of the Sundt/RNL design team and was responsible for the design, fabrication, and erection of 60 Pre-engineered Metal Buildings which cover over 400,000 square feet. Sure Steel was also responsible for the fabrication and erection of building components including but not limited to; 12 Bridge Cranes, 228 Overhead Doors, 400,000 square feet of Standing Seam Metal Roof and 366,460 square feet of Insulated Metal Panel Wall Cladding, Trellises, and other building components.
Schedule: Time was a critical factor on this project. All 60 buildings of this project were designed, fabricated, and erected within an 18 month duration. Onsite crews had to be scheduled with material deliveries so that all building components were delivered in time to keep up with a very demanding construction schedule. With as many as 5 buildings of similar construction materials being built at the same time on 12 different sites, proper tracking of material deliveries was essential to the completion of this project.
Quality: Sure Steel is an AISC certified erector. All structural steel fabricated and erected for this project met the AISC quality requirements as well as the COE quality standards. Sure Steel performed quality audits of materials fabricated. These audits involved visiting the fabrication facility to verify that materials were fabricated and met the requirements of the specified shop drawings.
Safety: Sure Steel currently maintains an EMR rating of 0.77. This exceptional rating is a result of Sure Steel’s commitment to continually implement safe practices at work. Like many projects, this project requires special site specific safety unique to others. Sure Steel took measures to ensure that this program was implemented for all employees. With the enforcement of this project specific program, Sure Steel crews worked over 72,500 man hours with no lost time injuries.
